Votives (Tamata)

We have been fortunate to find a small Greek company that continues to produce these lovely silver-like votive plaques.  This tradition has existed for centuries: The “wish of the day” is placed with family icons; then a candle is lit; incense is burned and the good works for the day are dedicated to the wish on the little votive plaque.  These wonderful symbols convey wishes for many purposes: the new house, the healthy baby, the new love (the heart symbol is a wonderful Valentine at any time of the year!!!), the successful operation, the watchful eye...

Tamata are similar to Milagros in the Latin tradition. They are also used as holiday tree decorations, as they glow beautifully in the light of a tree.  For example, we sell the Wedding Stephana (wreaths) to folks who use them as mementos.

Our Votives sell for $8 each. They are made from Alpaca (a combination of zinc, nickel, copper and tin), so will not tarnish and are much less pricy than Silver.
